Frequently Asked Questions

Ordering

  1. Q1: How do I order from Direct Vizion?

Ordering with Direct Vizion is simple and secure. Have an Eye test at your local optician, by law they must supply you with a copy of your prescription that was found during the test. This is YOUR prescription and you are not obliged to buy a pair of glasses from the local optician where your eyes were tested. Simply bring your prescription to us and let us save you money on glasses made to your prescription.

Q2: Can I download an order form?

Yes you can download a form from here.

Q3: Can I try the glasses at home before purchasing them?

    FREE! FREE! FREE!

All our glasses can be purchased as "try at home". Simply select try at home from the drop down menu and pay the full price of the required pair. You'll have 14 days to return them back to us.

Direct Vizion will NOT deduct a 10% (re-stocking fee) from the original amount paid like some businesses do.

All returns must be sent using Royal mail recorded delivery as we can not be held responsible for returned goods that are lost in transit.

Should you wish to go ahead with the purchase, simply return the glasses to us together with your prescription and a note specifying lens requirements.

    Your Prescription

Q1: How can I obtain my prescription?

After the eye exam your optician will write out a clear and easy to read copy of your personal prescription. Don't feel obliged to purchase your glasses from your local optician. It is recommended that you ask your optician for your pupilary distance (PD) to be written down on the prescription. Most, if not all prescriptions will not have this information on your prescription.

Q2: How do I read my prescription?

Below is an example of how your prescription will look like. It is important you enter all the values found on your prescription on our online order form or on the mail order form. There may also be a value called "PD" or pupillary distance. The "R" in this example is right eye and "L" the left eye.

Q3: Can I use an old prescription to order my glasses?

It is recommended to get your sight tested every 2 years. However, in some cases the optician may recommend a sight test every year or every 6 months. When the optician writes out your prescription, a date of next eye exam will be included or the test date and a recall period will be noted. At Direct Vizion we will only make prescription glasses to an upto date prescription

Q4: I have had an eye test and I am sure it is in date but I have lost the copy of my prescription how can I order my glasses?

You need a valid prescription to order your glasses. You can return to the optician who last tested your eyes and ask for a copy of your prescription. Most opticians will provide you a copy of your prescription without question if it is in date. Be warned that some opticians may charge you for another copy of your prescription and they are within their rights to do so.

Q5: What are the prescription ranges that I can order to?

The prescription range which we cater for is: +6.00 SPH (sphere) to -6.00 SPH and +2.00 CYL (cylinder) to -2.00 CYL

Q6: My prescription has different powers for "distance" "near" "intermediate" which one do I use?

On your prescription card or paper the optician may have wrote out several different prescriptions for different tasks. Depending on what you want to use your glasses for you may have to chose a particular prescription when ordering. If you are unsure which prescription you should use or you are left confused by the numbers get in contact with us at Direct Vizion.

Q7: I'm confused by my prescription. I don't understand what my prescription says.

If you are unsure about understanding your prescription you can get in touch with us and we will do our best to help.

Or you can email us at prescriptions@directvizion.co.uk

Q8: What is my pupillary distance (PD)?

The PD is a measurement between your pupils. It is used when making prescription glasses so that the pupil of each eye will be lined up with the centre of each lens. This will ensure optimal performance of the glasses made to your prescription. This is not usually included on the prescription and so we suggest you ask the optician to include it on the prescription card for you. If you can not obtain a measurement we will use an average of 63mm for distance, 60mm for near and 61mm for intermediate.
